Why I Celebrate Every “No”

This morning I was out walking on deck, the sea air fresh and bracing, waves rolling out behind the ship. It struck me how similar life at sea can feel to running a business. Both are journeys - sometimes smooth, sometimes choppy - but always moving forward.
Today I’d sent out a handful of messages to people in my network. A couple of them came straight back with a simple “no.” And do you know what? It's fine! I count that as a win.
For a long time, I used to take rejection personally. But over the years, I’ve learned that every “no” is actually progress. It means I’ve had a real conversation. It means I’ve been brave enough to ask. And most importantly, it means I’m closer to finding the next “yes.”
In my line of work, sometimes that yes leads to a proper bill review that saves someone real money. Other times, it just starts a chat that reconnects me with an old friend. Both outcomes are valuable.
The point is: no isn’t failure. It’s simply part of the process - clearing the path towards the right opportunities.
So whether you’re starting a side hustle, chasing a personal goal, or just putting yourself out there a bit more: don’t fear the no’s. Embrace them. They mean you’re moving. They mean you’re growing. They mean you’re getting closer.
And if you are ever curious about whether I could help you save money on your bills, I’d be glad to take a look. Just ask - I promise it won’t be a no from me.
