Why Summer Is the Smartest Time to Check Your Bills

As a freelance musician, I’ve always had to be smart about money - especially in between gigs. That’s one of the reasons I started my project, Savings With James.

But let me tell you something most people don’t realise: The best time to look at your household bills isn’t winter. It’s summer.

Here’s why…

1. You’re using less - but being charged more than you think.

In the summer months, people tend to assume their energy costs are low because they’re not using the heating.

But most suppliers base your payments on your annual average usage - so even if you’re barely using anything in July, you might still be paying winter-level prices.

By reviewing your bills now, you have a chance to lower your monthly payments ahead of the colder months.

2. There are more deals around.

Right now, some suppliers are offering strong fixed rates and bundles.

For example, the company I work with save by combining energy, broadband, mobile and insurance under one roof - meaning one bill, fewer surprises, and better value overall.

Last month alone, I helped someone knock over £380/year off their household bills — and it only took us 20 minutes.

3. Summer is less stressful.

Let’s face it - no one wants to deal with paperwork when it’s dark, freezing, and they’re already stressed about Christmas.

Now is the perfect time to have a quick look, get it sorted, and move on with your life.

So… where do you start?

If you’re curious to know whether you’re overpaying - or just want peace of mind - I’ll happily take a look for you.
